ffresh 10 Design Competition entry by Joe Stark
Here’s the final entry for the ffresh 10 Design Competition by University of Glamorgan student Joe Stark. Vote for your favourite design on the ffresh Facebook page. The winner will receive £250 as well as having their design as the official artwork for ffresh 2013!
Here’s what Joe has to say about his entry:
During this design process I really wanted to incorporate an element of movement within the artwork. I wanted to give the viewer an idea of what Ffresh is about and also to engage them with an interesting and unique design. I achieved the movement element by taking some long exposure shots of city lights and cropping out interesting hexagonal sections.
The idea behind using hexagonal shapes first came to me when researching into Glyndwr University itself. In recent years, the university has been involved in the production of hexagonal mirror segments for the worlds biggest telescope. As Ffresh changes venue each year I felt it was important to have some kind of link to the venue within the artwork, and this interesting fact was a way to do it.
I went with a popular current theme of geometric shapes and tables to give the piece more depth and diversity, hoping to appeal to a student audience. The bold white title and information stand out well from the background and is a clear indication of when and where the event is being held.
