Trailer: Lawless - August 31

Directed by John Hillcoat, based on the novel by Matt Bondurant, starring Tom Hardy, Shia LaBeouf, Guy Pearce, Gary Oldman, Jessica Chastain, and Mia Wasikowska

Ignoring the fact that ‘Lawless’ is a terrible name for a movie and completely unmemorable, this does look surprisingly appealing. It’s got a Boardwalk Empire away-from-the-boardwalk feel and enough acting punch to give it legs. Hillcoat isn’t a household name but he directed the underrated big screen adaptation of The Road, so there’s no reason to doubt him. The late August release date gives me some trepidation as it’s not historically a great time of year for quality movies, but we should hold out hope yet.
